The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

  • MUSICIAN POSITION TITLE: Protestant Community Worship Service (CWS) Musician
  • SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary form of worship is a blend of Traditional, Contemporary, and Gospel-style music, an essential element of the Protestant worship experience. The Protestant Community Worship Service (CWS) (herein referred to as Musician) provides the necessary musical support for the Community Worship Service at Luke Air Force Base (AFB). The number of units performed may not exceed 115 annual units. The performance period is from 1 October 2023 – to 30 September 2024 (Renewable through 30 September 2025).
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications for the Protestant Community Worship Service (CWS) Musician include:
    • Musician shall have at least five years’ experience playing the piano/keyboard. They must possess sound accompaniment skills, competent sight-reading ability, play by ear, and be able to play music from the gospel and contemporary genres. These competencies shall be affirmed in the applicant's resume.
    • Possess two years of experience as an accompanist in a church setting.
    • Must be able to operate in a diverse worship environment and maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with co-workers, chapel staff, and parishioners.
    • Possess a high level of technical playing ability and demonstrate sight-reading ability by successfully passing an audition.
    • Must be familiar with contemporary and gospel worship styles and possess the ability to blend them into a harmonious worship experience.
    • A letter of recommendation from an ordained clergyperson attesting to the applicant’s musical ability/experience and character is required as part of the application package.
    • Provide two additional letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant's moral and ethical character consistent with the Christian faith to honor the sensibilities of the worshiping community.
  • SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities for the Protestant Community Worship Service (CWS) Musician include:
    • Musician shall demonstrate integrity through a moral, upright lifestyle consistent with Christian church teachings.
    • Accompany all worship services providing preludes, postludes, offertories, and choir/congregational singing.
    • As available, provide accompaniment for special services (i.e., funerals/memorials, weddings, etc.).
    • All required resources and supplies must be coordinated through the designated Chaplain Corps member.
    • Conduct oneself in a professional and business-like manner.
    • Be neatly dressed and well-groomed. Proper attire is defined as business casual or more formal.
    • Assist the CWS Chaplain in ensuring the choir is returned to its original condition and that the facilities are properly secured and locked upon departure after each rehearsal, worship service, special event, or any time the facilities are used.
    • Advise the CWS Chaplain or approved designee on music selection for services.
    • The Musician consults and coordinates with the CWS Chaplain and the Contract Monitor to validate the work performed.
  • HOURS/UNITS OF WORK:
    • Musician services will be provided during Sunday worship services, typically two hours in length (.5 hrs. before, 1 hr. for service, .5 hrs. after). Practice sessions and rehearsals will be held before each service at a time to be determined by the CWS Chaplain with the approval of the Contract Officer. Special services, and practices or rehearsals for special services, are in addition to the regular weekly work units. Units (or a session) are a minimum of one hour, shall not exceed two hours, and shall consist of services listed in this PWS.
    • Replacement candidates may be pre-approved to facilitate emergency absences.
    • All replacement candidates must meet the same qualifications as the Musician and be approved by the CWS Chaplain and Contract Monitor.

REPLACEMENTS: Musician is responsible for continuous contract performance through the contract period. Replacements may not be long-term (defined as more than six consecutive weeks) or on a consistently recurring basis (i.e., every other week, 3d Sunday of each month, etc.), but only for required short-term absences of a personal nature (sickness, vacation, family emergency, etc.). Replacement candidates must meet all Protestant Community Worship Service (CWS) Musician qualifications listed above and be approved by the CWS Chaplain and the Contracting Officer. Resumes and references for all replacements are required for approval. The government reserves the right to refuse any replacement candidate if they do not meet all required qualifications.
