The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. CONTRACT POSITION TITLE: Protestant Religious Education Coordinator

2. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The scope of the responsibility of the Religious Education (RE) Coordinator encompasses the religious education program specifically geared for children pre-K through 3rd grade. The RE Coordinator will coordinate the religious education program through the Protestant RE Chaplain for clarification, information, resources, and approval

3. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

The 509 BW/HC Protestant Religious Education Coordinator Shall:

3.1. Develop a yearly continuing religious education program for children (pre-K through 3rd grade).  This includes Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, and children’s religious education classes during women’s/mothers ministry classes.   This may also include special services to include Christmas and Easter children’s programs

3.2. Develop an annual budget (1 Oct – 30 Sep) in writing for all religious education program needs to include: materials, supplies, projected programs, teacher training and special religious education programs

3.3. Develop and plan for registration of activities, recruitment and training of teachers (including substitutes and helpers) and ensure all adult workers (18 years or older) have the prescribed background checks completed and on file 

3.4. Attend monthly Parish Advisory Council (PAC) meetings, providing religious education reports as directed by the RE Chaplain

3.5. Prepare religious education publicity as required for base paper, official base bulletin, chapel bulletins electronic media, and social networks at least two (2) weeks in advance of the activity or program. Publicity is to be submitted in final written format for printing and posting

3.6. Submit all religious education fund/purchase requests to the chaplain who is supervising the religious education program.  The requests should be submitted at least two (2) weeks in advance for purchasing religious education items

3.7. Ensure facility requests are submitted four (4) weeks in advance for any events in the chapel

3.8. If approved by Protestant RE Chaplain Plan, coordinator will recruit and train teachers and volunteers to implement Vacation Bible School (VBS). Coordinator will work with the Catholic RE Coordinator for an ecumenical VBS, if applicable

3.9. Establish a process so that teachers contact all absentees. Inform the RE Chaplain about students with special needs, which might require his/her personal contact/visit

3.10. Maintain current information for religious education program participants including name, address, phone number, age (exclude adults), marital status / single parent, and any special needs for each group.  Ensure information follows Air Force Policy dealing with Personal identifiable information (PII)

3.11. In the event of absence, the RE Coordinator will arrange for a substitute with the same qualifications whom must be approved by the Wing Chaplain or program sponsoring chaplain and have a completed criminal background check and installation records check on file.  The substitute will contact the Protestant RE Chaplain in the event of absence at least one week in advance.  It is understood if the RE Coordinator can’t make it due to inclement weather.  Inclement weather is defined as icy roads, local flooding and natural disasters.

3.12. Ensure that all RE workers are aware of local safety requirements and procedures

4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS and EXPECTATIONS:  Must be willing to work with others in an ecumenical and public forum. Will be active in the Whiteman Protestant Chapel Program; become visibly known within the Protestant parish by attending worship services and programs. Must be a positive, self-directed and motivated individual. Must be willing to recruit teachers, publicly recognizing teacher and class accomplishments, and encouraging Sunday school and Christian education attendance

4.1. The scope and nature of this position requires a minimum of eight (8) hours a week.  The eight (8) hours may be reduced or elevated with approval from RE Chaplain in order to better prepare for holiday programs and Vacation Bible School.  

4.2. The coordinator will ensure that all facilities are used properly and secured upon departure following the conclusion of the program/event

4.3. In accordance with AFI 10-701, the coordinator will explicitly state coordinator OPSEC responsibilities and requirements to protect critical information and indicators for the contracted activity, operation, or program

4.4. In accordance with DODI 1402.5 E3.2.c., each individual working with

children under the age of 18 in conjunction with this contract shall successfully

complete a federally mandated criminal history background check (conducted by the Base Chapel) which shall include a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) and if the individual has a prior DoD affiliation within the last two years an Installation Records Check (IRC).

5. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Completion of an academic degree or background in education. Religious education leadership experience within a chapel setting is preferred
