Protestant Music Director

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1.1. Protestant Music Director

1.1.1. The Protestant Music Director shall provide music direction as approved by the Lead Protestant Chaplain.

1.1.2. The Protestant Music Director shall select and direct music in coordination with contract and volunteer musicians and vocalists for Protestant worship services.

1.1.3. The Protestant Music Director shall rehearse at least once per week with contract and volunteer musicians and vocalists at a mutually acceptable date and time with coordination through the Lead Protestant Chaplain. Times may be changed upon mutual agreement between the Musician, Music Director, and lead Protestant Chaplain. Regular weekly rehearsals shall be a minimum of one (1) hour.   Length of the rehearsal is determined by the time needed to ensure that music is prepared and professional for the upcoming masses or services.

1.1.4. The Protestant Music Director shall select and direct music selections at the weekly Protestant worship service and in coordination with the officiating Chaplain. The Protestant Music Director shall direct selected music in a manner, which meets the worship and musical requirements for a Protestant Worship Service, as requested by the Lead Protestant Chaplain.

1.1.5. The Protestant Music Director shall be available for additional rehearsals and performances including Easter, Christmas, memorials or similar services as approved by the Installation Chaplain or (COR). Additional services may include planning, preparing, consulting, rehearsing, performing, etc. Additional services and rehearsals will be coordinated with the Lead Protestant Chaplain before performing the duty.

1.1.6. The Protestant Music Director shall prepare or coordinate preparation of any audio/visual requirements for Protestant rehearsals and worship services. Such preparations may include (but are not limited to): setup and tear-down of stage, music stands, microphones, instruments, amplifiers, sound board, preparing and inputting words and slides for presentation software, etc. The Protestant Music director may work with chapel staff, contractors and volunteers to ensure setup and teardown is accomplished and that slides are accurately portrayed during worship.

1.2. Performance Requirements

1.2.1. Monthly duties shall typically include:

1.2.3. Weekly performance for regular Sunday services

1.2.4. Additional rehearsals and performance as required by the lead faith chaplain(s) for special services, holy days, funerals, memorials or similar (up to, but not exceeding monthly hours).

1.2.5. Music director shall provide additional rehearsals and performances as coordinated by lead faith group chaplain(s).

1.2.6. Music director shall ensure that contract personnel arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of each service and remain until all setup and clean-up are accomplished.

1.2.7. Contract personnel shall coordinate with lead faith group chaplains or (COR)s for acquiring music, supplies, licenses, etc. All requests for purchases or supplies will be coordinated in accordance with Chapel policies for purchase requests.

1.2.8. Music director will comply with all applicable Air Force and local guidance for financial management, facility use, maintenance and security.

1.2.9. Music director shall be accountable for paying any FICA, Federal, State, or Local Income Taxes, and State Unemployment Insurance premiums for themselves, as well as any individual employed or subcontracted by them to provide services under this contract.

1.2.10. The Music director is required to give the Installation Chaplain or (COR) at least two-week notice of any period of absence.

1.2.11. The Music director shall provide a suitable substitute coordinated with the Installation Chaplain or (COR). In addition, the Music director shall provide the substitute’s appropriate credentials in accordance with §4.4. At no time can a substitute begin work before a background check has been completed. Compensation for substitute is the sole responsibility of the Music director.

1.2.11.1. A substitute must be of equal or greater capability than the Music director.

1.2.11.2. The Music director shall provide written documentation of all substitutions indicating name and date of substitutions.

2.0 Special Requirements and Qualifications

2.1. Music director shall be able to sight-read music and two years recent successful history of performing in the capacity of devotional music director or music director for a church or military chapel is required.

2.2. Music director shall maintain professional conduct and present self in a neat, clean and well groomed manner wearing business/business casual clothing depending on the event. The Chaplain responsible for the service will resolve questions on appropriate dress.

2.3. Music director shall maintain healthy and professional interpersonal relationships with staff and parishioners in a pluralistic military environment.

2.2. Music director shall provide information necessary for successful completion of a background investigation in accordance with DoDI 1402.5 and AFI 52-101. The Government shall be responsible to conduct the required background investigation and for the costs incurred while doing so.

2.2.1. In accordance with DoDI 1402.5, payment of the background check is the responsibility of the Government.

2.5. Music director is responsible for cleaning up work area and returning spaces to their neutral configurations after each rehearsal and mass or any other chapel activities requiring musical services.

2.6. The music director shall be responsible for safeguarding all government property and controlled forms provided for music director use. At the end of each work period, all government facilities, equipment, and materials shall be promptly secured.

2.7. Music director shall comply with Peterson SFB security requirements prior to contract performance, after contract award for base access.
