The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
1.1 Scope of Responsibilities:
1.1.1. Catholic Religious Education Coordinator covers Pre-K thru 12th Grade.
1.1.2 The Catholic Religious Education (RE) planning, managing, and coordinating activities shall be continuous throughout the contract period with increased workloads during the following periods: (1) Whenever Confirmation occurs as directed by Archdiocese of Military Service (AMS); (2) May-July period for conducting VBS and reporting sacramental records to the various dioceses and parishes, and (3) August-September period prior to the formal opening of the Catholic RE classes.
1.2. Period of Performance/Place of Performance
1.2.1. This requirement calls for support at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The Period of Performance in the contract is anticipated from 22 September 2019 - 21 September 2024.
1.3 The coordinator must participate in safety training and update skills as needed.
1.4. Qualifications: The Coordinator shall:
1.4.1. Hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, preference will be given to education or ministry degrees.
1.4.2. Possess at least three (3) years of experience in Catholic Religious Education. Strong preference will be given to experience in military chapels.
1.4.3. Be proficient in written and spoken English communication.
1.4.4. Demonstrate a continuing effort to update his/her knowledge of current Catholic religious practices when training opportunities are provided by the COR.
1.4.5. Become an active participant in the Edwards community of faith in order to have an understanding of the special needs of the military community.
1.4.6. Be an active catechist for a minimum of five (5) years having participated in teaching a variety of sacramental programs for children, youth, and adults or have equivalent classroom experience whether as a teacher or facilitator, teacher assistant, or school administrator within the past five (5) years.
1.4.7. Be familiar with the Catechetical Certification Program through the Archdiocese for the Military Services.
1.4.8. Coordinator who has not earned a Master’s Degree in Theology or Religious Studies is required to pursue an advanced certificate in catechesis or youth ministry through VLCFF or CDU. The certificate programs comprise of levels one and two. Each level must be completed within three years. Therefore, a CRE must complete the advanced certificate program within six years. The certification and/or training paperwork shall be presented to the COR within five (5) days after completion.
1.4.9. Maintain ethical standards equivalent to the Uniform Military Code of Justice and shall work in accordance with the chaplain requirements.
1.4.10. Maintain a good rapport with the congregation and be discreet in character and someone who will maintain absolute privacy and confidentiality for any issues either seen or heard.
1.4.11. Subject to background check.
2. Duties and Responsibilities. The Coordinator shall:
2.1. Submit a work schedule that allows for the accomplishment of all position requirements.
2.2. Provide services for up to 110 students.
2.3. Attend weekly Catholic staff meeting and weekly chapel staff meeting.
2.4. Monitor/track/properly maintain all funds spent by the youth Program, to account for what is spent and ensure fund requests are completed in accordance with HC AFIs/OIs.
2.5. Work closely with Chapel Tithes and Offerings (CTOF) account manager to ensure timely submission of funds requests to meet program plan and distribution/reimbursement of funds to program leaders.
2.6. Catholic RE Planning Services: Coordinator shall:
2.6.1. Develop and submit not later than ten (10) working days after award the annual Catholic RE calendar for submission to the Catholic Priest and yearly thereafter. This calendar projects all regular and sacramental classes, sacramental masses and rehearsals, lock-ins and retreats, and parents' meetings.
2.6.2. Identify by title and quantity all student texts and catechist manuals with the list submitted to the Catholic Priest not later than 15 May. IAW list of approved texts by United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
2.6.3. Coordinator shall advise the Catholic Priest (verbally or in writing) of any event or problem which might jeopardize the successful implementation of the Catholic RE Program to include 1.) changes in student population or 2.) discipline or class attendance problems which merit action by the Catholic Priest. This includes preparation of meeting notification letters and other letters to parents of Catholic RE students.
2.6.4. Maintain a current database of volunteers on the chapel shared drive to support Sunday class sessions. Coordinator shall weekly ensure that the primary or a substitute volunteer catechist is assigned to each Sunday class session as required by the COR.
2.6.5. Coordinator shall on a weekly basis distribute to classes specific materials requested by the volunteer catechists.
2.6.6. Weekly check student registrations for complete information and call parents when a child seems unprepared for a regular class setting, so a remedial or corrective class situation may be recommended. Compile and maintain current class rosters.
2.6.7. Weekly compile and distribute updated class rosters (i.e., student names added or deleted) to volunteer catechists.
2.6.8. Weekly distribute, and collect from each volunteer catechist data sheets to report student attendance and the results of pre-class inspections.
2.6.9. Weekly monitor the Chapel facility before, during and after the formal class period and take appropriate action in the event of a safety or student discipline problem. This includes remaining until all students have been picked up by their parents or guardians or safe transportation arranged for their return home.
2.6.10. Weekly basis monitor volunteer catechist classroom teaching activities to determine if special or additional catechist training is appropriate.
2.6.11. Arrange for orientation, retreat and training workshops for volunteer catechists (i.e., securing and setting up rooms, AV aids, and ordering and picking up food items).
2.6.12 Arrange for and transfer to the Catholic Priest records required for background checks for all volunteers IAW Archdiocese of Military Science and the DOD through Air Force Community Services (AFCS) Volunteer services. Coordinator shall recruit, retain, and record on rosters qualified teachers meeting Archdiocese Military Service (AMS) standards to teach Catholic at assigned locations.
2.6.13. Sacramental Preparation Services: Coordinator shall:
2.6.14. Monitor on a monthly basis the progress of Sacramental Preparation students in a classroom situation.
2.6.15. Coordinator shall on a weekly basis provide resources for Sacramental Celebrations and Penance Service as needed. Set up an assigned facility for Parents' Meetings for Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (two each).
2.6.16. Review with students and parents the flow of the First Reconciliation Service with two rehearsals, First Eucharist Mass with two rehearsals, and Confirmation Mass with one rehearsal as needed.
2.6.17. Prepare and send student Sacrament records to the appropriate diocese or parish.
2.6.18. Resource Confirmation Retreat: Coordinator shall resource the annual Confirmation Retreat under the direction of the Catholic Priest.
2.6.19. Coordinate Catholic VBS: Coordinator shall publicize the annual Vacation Bible School Program within the Catholic Community and submit all VBS registrations and volunteers to the Catholic Priest.
