The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following: 

1.0 Position Title. Gospel Worship Music Director.
2.0 Scope of Responsibilities.
The Gospel Worship Music Director will provide services for the Protestant Gospel
Community worship services, held every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The Music Director for the
Gospel Service acts as a choir director providing the leadership, planning, instruction, and
musical expertise to deliver a vibrant music experience for the congregants. The Music
Director, after coordination with the assigned chaplain and accompanist, uses selections
made from musical compositions which form part of the Protestant Gospel tradition,
varying from traditional to contemporary, and in keeping with the norms of this tradition.
3.0 Qualifications. The Gospel Worship Music Director will possess:
a. Ability to sight read music and lead choral and congregational singing.
b. Ability to work in collaboration with volunteers, accompanist, and chaplain assigned to
the Gospel worship service in the rehearsal and performance of music, including the
solicitation of players of other musical instruments, such as strings, woodwinds, brass or
percussion, as well as vocalists.
c. Understanding of Gospel liturgy and see music as integral to the celebration of the rites
of the Church; be able to foster participation in those rites through song; and possess
good organizational and communication skills.
d. Balanced repertoire (traditional to contemporary) and be well grounded in the
development of Protestant Gospel worship music and liturgical rubrics.
e. Mature command of speaking, writing, and reading the English language.
f. A neat, clean and well-groomed professional appearance and conduct.
4.0 Specific Tasks. The Gospel Worship Music Director shall:
a. Select music to be used in the worship services.

b. Order and distribute sheet music to choir members, keeping within copyright infringement laws. Music taken from the files shall be replaced properly and promptly when finished.

c. Provide a written list of music selections to the assigned chaplain of the Protestant
Gospel worship service, or designee, at least one month in advance. All selections are
subject to the approval of the Wing Chaplain, or designee.
d. Recruit, train, and rehearse all current and new choir members.
e. Meet regularly with the assigned chaplain and Protestant Parish Coordinator for general
planning and leadership of the music program.
f. Conduct weekly rehearsals, separate from Sunday services, with the Gospel Worship
Accompanist and the choir, lasting at least 60 minutes in duration. The choir warm-up
time prior to a worship service is considered part of the service. Also conduct an
estimated 12 additional services to be determined by the liturgical year of the Church
and special holidays. Warm up time prior to a service is considered part of the service
and not a separate rehearsal.
g. Strive to attend all parish advisory council meetings and all other choir related meetings;
and notify the Protestant Parish Coordinator if unable to attend.
h. Attend a formal training session on the Sound System, become familiar with the
chapel(s) sound systems, and be able to operate and turn on/off the sound system(s).
i. Maintain professional proficiency. Any personal practice time is at no additional cost to
the Government.
j. Provide a 15 to 30-minute warm up session before the worship service, and
performance for the Gospel worship service itself of generally one, but no more than
two hours.
5.0 Additional Responsibilities.
5.1. Number of Sessions.

Total maximum sessions are 52 Sunday performances, 52 regular weekly rehearsals and
12 specials (Holy Days, rehearsals, special events/activities) for a total maximum of 116
sessions. One unit is equal to one service, special event/activities, rehearsal, and payment
will be based on units performed

5.2. Substitute Personnel. The music director is responsible for finding a substitute if the Gospel

Worship Music Director cannot perform services. The substitute will meet the qualification
requirements in this PWS, and the substitute’s musical ability must be acceptable to the Wing
Chaplain, or the Gospel Worship Service Chaplain. The msuic director will provide at least 24-hours’
notice of the substitution to the Gospel Worship Service Chaplain, or designee, prior to the
scheduled service or function, when possible. 

5.3 Absences. The music director will give the chapel staff a two-week notice of any planned

absence
