The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
Protestant Music Director Keyboardist and Vocalist, Community Chapel
1 The Protestant Music Director shall provide, teach, coordinate, and direct appropriate high-quality music for a weekly contemporary style worship service and special Protestant Services in coordination with the lead faith group chaplain. Shall provide high quality piano or keyboard accompaniment for contemporary style worship. Time of services will be coordinated based on the Protestant religious service schedule which is subject to change.
The Protestant Music Director will provide a high-quality Protestant Contemporary or Gospel Worship experience and provide all deliverables as described in 3.10 as confirmed by the assigned Protestant Chaplain.
2 Qualifications. Prefer individual with 3 to 5 years of experience in a military chapel or large Protestant church.
2.1 Have experience directing contemporary or gospel worship in a chapel or local church setting.
2.2 Lead worship in a way that enhances the spiritual value of Protestant worship services and encourages congregational members to participate in musical worship.
2.3 Be proficient on piano or keyboard and possess a strong vocal ability with a style conducive to contemporary worship leadership.
3 Duties and Responsibilities. The Protestant Music Director shall:
3.1 Recruit, train, and assist all volunteers for the Protestant worship team in all scheduled Protestant Worship. Director will lead a mid-week worship opportunity (currently Wednesday evenings – but subject to change) for Preparatory School Students and Dorm Airmen during the Preparatory School calendar year. Director will also lead worship every Sunday (service is currently at 1045 but subject to change). Director will also lead worship at any special services as directed by the lead faith group chaplain.
The music director is responsible for teaching, directing, coordinating, and leading all vocal music in coordination with the Protestant musician under the direction of the lead faith group chaplain.
3.2 Submit accurate worship team attendance records and number of hours for all rehearsals, regular, and special services to the lead faith group chaplain on a weekly basis.
3.3 Plan, coordinate, and direct a contemporary worship service in coordination with the theme and message of the chaplain scheduled to preach each week if directed to do so by the lead faith group chaplain.
3.4 Coordinate all special music to be performed at each service with the chaplain responsible for that service. This includes solos, duets, choirs, and guest musicians.
3.5 Plan and direct weekly rehearsals for the worship team.
3.6 Be present at least 15 minutes before rehearsals and 30 minutes before worship services which the service chaplain has coordinated for musical support.
3.7 Provide all necessary sheet music to musicians, in the form of lead sheets, chord sheets, at least one week in advance of rehearsals. These will be obtained using Church Copyright License, Inc. (CCLI). The license number, username and password will be provided by the chapel staff or service chaplain.
3.8 Ensure all audio and visual equipment is setup and tested prior to each worship event and rehearsal.
3.9 Upload visual lyrics into the software platform provided by the chapel and ensure the lyrics are projected on the screens to maximize congregational participation. Must ensure displayed lyrics match lyrics as sung.
3.10 Monitor the condition of all worship team equipment and advise the COR of any problems or needs.
3.11 Ensure the area used by the Protestant worship team and the front of the sanctuary is left clean after use by putting audio/visual equipment away properly and restoring area to original/neutral configuration and or setting.
3.12 Ensure instrument(s) used are safely and properly stored.
3.13 Submit CTOF and APF budget requests and provide inputs to assigned Protestant Chaplain prior to 1 May for the following fiscal year budget development.
3.14 Identify and coordinate Chapel Tithes and Offerings and Appropriated budget requests to support the music program to the Catholic chaplain. Purchase items IAW local operating instructions once the request has been coordinated, vetted, signed and approved.
4 Worship Services
4.1 The music director shall direct music for all weekly Sunday Worship and special services, to include both rehearsal and performance, including but not limited to the following:
Preparatory School Mid-Week Faith Formation Event– Weekday and time will be coordinated by the assigned Preparatory School Chaplain and occasional worship night. (August – May)
Preparatory School Early Sunday Morning Worship Services as necessary – coordinated by the assigned Preparatory School Chaplain.
Preparatory School Baccalaureate in May
Easter Sunrise, Maundy Thursday (as needed) and Good Friday services
Christmas Programs (i.e., Christmas Eve/Christmas Day/Christmas Tree lighting) additional events may be coordinated by the lead faith group chaplain.
