The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1.0 Position Title. Protestant Religious Education Coordinator
2.0 Qualifications.
The Protestant RE Coordinator facilitates the Protestant RE program for the DM AFB
Chaplain Corps Protestant Program. Responsibilities encompass the budgeting, planning,
coordinating, advertising, and monitoring of various Protestant RE programs.
2.1 Two years’ experience working in a similar or related field. A baccalaureate degree is
recommended, but not required.
2.2 Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications or become proficient in the use of
the chapel’s computer equipment and software programs within two months of the
contract start date.
2.3 Proficient typing skills.
2.4 Possess prior experience working with children, ages infant to 18 years old, in a group
setting.
2.5 Possess, or obtain within 90 days of contract start date, First Aid, CPR, and Infant CPR
training at no additional cost to the Government. The contractor must provide a proof of
training upon request.
2.6 Be at least 21 years of age.
2.7 Strong knowledge of Christian (Protestant) faith, practice, and traditions.
2.8 Ability to maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with co-workers,
chapel staff and parishioners. Possess the qualities of integrity, professionalism, and
positive work ethics in relation to chapel personnel and volunteers. Be positive, selfdirected, motivated, and able to interface well with people. Possess the ability to interact
constructively with staff and lay volunteers in sometimes-stressful situations.
2.9 Be fully qualified to perform the required services with minimal direction.
2.10 Maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum, including but not
limited to, dress and grooming. Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed professional
appearance and conduct yourself in a business-like manner.
2.11 Ability to work in and be fully conversant with the pluralistic environment of the U.S.
Air Force Chaplain Corps.
2.12 Must have a mature command of speaking, writing, and reading the English language.
a. Provide administrative support for all Protestant religious programs including but
not limited to: selection of curricula and supplies, annual budget submissions, records,
reports, and correspondence, events, inventories of curricula, maintain a store of expendable
supplies, and submit funds requests as needed in a timely manner.
b. Schedule, plan and conduct special Protestant RE programs. These activities include, but are
not limited to: Religious Education, Children’s Ministries, Adult Bible Studies, and Vacation
Bible School (VBS).
c. Participate in staff training, meetings, and team building activities that will help facilitate
continuity among staff members and chapel programs. Participate in the annual parish
planning meetings, monthly Protestant Parish Advisory Council meetings, and monthly or
quarterly meetings of the Protestant Ministries Working Group. Comply with mandatory
training required for all contractors and maintain current training records. Training includes,
but is not limited to internet-based training and chapel off-sites. Participate in such
professional and spiritual growth training as the Wing Chaplain or designee may approve and
as funding may support. If funding is available, the contractor may select and attend at least
one continuing education/professional development event per year.
d. Assist in the development of an annual Chapel Tithes and Offerings Fund (CTOF) budget,
appropriated fund budget, and core religious education curriculum as directed by the Wing
Chaplain or Designee.
e. Coordinate and assist Protestant volunteers with the planning and carrying out of events
including the preparation and submission of facility use forms and CTOF request forms in
accordance with chapel procedures; assist program leaders and laity in ordering goods and
services in support of Protestant Religious Education programs.
f. Provide training to teaching staff and volunteers. Review professional religious education
curricula and disseminate materials to the teaching staff. Recruit volunteers for the Protestant
Religious Education Program. Provide all necessary training materials. Ensure all adults
(over the age of 18) who are working with Children prepare the proper Background
Investigation forms and provide the forms to the appropriate Chapel staff. Coordinate special
religious education and Sunday school events. Select and recruit volunteers for special
programs, and events coordinated with Wing Chaplain through the religious education
chaplain. Provide teacher-training workshops/events as required. Provide orientation to new
volunteers in the area of facilities, funding, policies, and resources, while presenting follow
up training and education in coordination with the Wing Chaplain and RE Chaplain. Serve as
a resource advisor to the children’s church program. Train volunteer staff as needed, and
supervise this ministry.
g. Ensure volunteers receive recognition and support for their work. Organize an annual
Protestant Religious Volunteer Appreciation Event.
h. Keep proper records of attendance, volunteer worker’s time and financial expenditures.
Compile weekly, monthly and annual statistics related to the program(s), when requested.
i. Draft publicity for Protestant Religious programs as requested by the Wing Chaplain or
Protestant chaplain advisors. Work with chapel support staff to submit information pertaining
to the Protestant community for the base paper, chapel and base marquees, and other
publicity venues. All publicity needs to be approved by the Wing Chaplain.
j. Submit after-action reports on special events/programs as required.
k. Assist in the preparation of Major Command and directed inspections.
l. Account for security and cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with any
Protestant RE programs.
m. Consider and implement creative Sunday school promotion activities. Review, select and
submit the religious education various requirements determining curricula needs. The Wing
Chaplain approves all Religious Education programs, events, publicity, literature and
curriculum ensuring that is meet the needs of the community and does not denigrate any
religious group.
n. Maintain the Protestant library collection.
o. Perform as the resource person, advisor, and coordinator of religious education for the
Protestant Parish; being responsible for planning, promoting, and implementing a
comprehensive and unified Christian education program at the chapel.
p. Oversee the weekly education programs including, but not limited to: unlocking and locking
classrooms, preparing and distributing materials, arranging and maintain on-site storage (as
necessary), coordinating facility ability and arrangements. Visit each RE class at least once
per quarter, or as requested by volunteer staff providing assistance where necessary and
ensuring a well-balanced educational approach.
q. Maintain Protestant religious education files and submit attendance reports to chapel staff as
needed. Maintain a current roster of volunteer education staff, ensuring all volunteer staff are
aware of local safety requirements.
r. Ensure timely follow up contact is made with all education program visitors and absentee
members.
s. Assist in other areas of religious education within the Protestant parish programs as
needed and requested with the Wing Chaplain through the religious education
4.0 Schedule. The coordinator will work a maximum of 1500 hours per year, not exceeding 40 hours in any given week. These hours will include a normal average of 20 hours a week spread out at a minimum of three days, mostly during normal business hours (7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and will be dependent upon the needs of the Protestant Chaplain. There will also be occasional surges to meet special occasion requirements. Flexibility is paramount as the schedule will also include evening hours and weekend duties. A weekly office work schedule
will be coordinated with the Protestant Chaplain to ensure program coordination. Time off from work and leave will be coordinated with the Protestant Chaplain
