The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 musician with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Objective:
The musician shall provide VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS) with Protestant Musician Services to assist in the provision of spiritual healing patient population. A pianist/vocalist or an organist/vocalist is preferred for this position.
2. Background:
The VA Long Beach Healthcare System requires individuals to provide live music (piano, organ, soloist) for worship services and other special religious/spiritual activities. Music is recognized as an essential element in most worship services. VALBHS Veterans benefit greatly from this service. The Veterans are primarily residential patients and are unable to leave the grounds to attend worship services in the community. VALBHS requires individuals to provide live musical services for Protestant Worship Services at the medical center campus-based chapel in Long Beach, CA. VALBHS also requires individuals to provide live music at Memorial Services and other special events as requested on the medical center campus. There is no requirement that the same individual play for every service.
3. Specific Tasks:
Task 1 – Provision of Music for Live Performance in Spiritual Activities
4. Schedule:
This is engagement beginning at 10:15 on Sundays and is up to 70 events a year.
5. Deliverables:
5.1. Musician is responsible for transportation to the VALBHS campus. VALBHS will not be responsible for any costs associated with transport to and from the work area (Chapel).
5.2. The musician shall also be responsible for ensuring musicians arrive in time to perform musical prelude (10 minutes) and postlude (10 minutes) before and after worship services. All musicians provided must be able to take direction from the presiding Chaplain.
5.3. VALBHS Chapel will provide a Piano, Allen Organ, microphone, and speaker system for use by musicians, any other equipment or musical instruments required shall be provided by the musician/musician.
6. Performance Monitoring:
6.1. VALBHS Chaplains will monitor the arrival/departure times for Chapel musicians and certify services provided were of acceptable quality.
