The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. BACKGROUND

The Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune base Command Chaplain’s Office has the mission to develop personnel and families of operating forces and the Camp Lejeune community for spiritual and personal readiness, through ministries, pastoral care, and the provision for and facilitation of the free exercise of religion. The Camp Lejeune’s base Command Chaplain’s Office has a requirement for one musician to play an organ, piano, or keyboard.

2. QUALIFICATIONS

2.1. Must be able to read music and play an organ, piano, keyboard, or organ.

2.2. Familiar with liturgical formats.

2.3. Ability to play Catholic liturgical music.

2.3. Ability to lead specific faith group music services.

2.4. Ability to pass an audition (see Attachment #2) conducted and graded by the Government.

3. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

The musician shall perform organist, pianist, or keyboard musician services in support of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Chapel Mass services and other Christian or Catholic events as determined by the Marine Corps Base Chaplain’s Office and is required to support the missions and responsibilities of the Command Religious Program. The services shall include, but are not limited to:

3.1. The musician shall coordinate the musical arrangements with the Officiating Chaplain prior to conducting any rehearsals or services.

3. 2. The musician shall provide a minimum of two (2) rehearsals per week, not to exceed 104 rehearsals per year.  Rehearsals may include adult choir, children’s choir, instrumental ensembles, and vocal or instrumental soloist and should last approximately one (1) hour. The period of performance is identified in Paragraph 5.

3.3. The musician shall perform two (2) Sunday Mass musician service per week, not to exceed 104 rehearsals per year. Services are for active duty personnel and all others authorized.  Worship services shall not exceed 80 minutes and will be conducted every Sunday. One (1) Sunday Mass service consists of early Mass at 8:00 a.m. EST/EDT and then 11:00 a.m. EST/EDT Mass. Mass times are subject to change in which the Chaplain shall inform the musician of the service dates and start times.

3.4. The musician shall provide support for up to thirty (20) special services which may be scheduled during the church calendar year or during civic holidays and will be coordinated by the Chapel Priest. The special services include such events as Holy Days of Obligation, funerals, memorials, and other special religious observances.   

3.5. The musician, in support of regularly scheduled services and special events, shall arrive at the appointed place of performance 15 minutes prior to the scheduled event.

3.6. The musician shall inform the Chaplain of any malfunctions of the instruments and any required services needed to maintain the instruments musical integrity. The Government will be responsible for necessary repairs, supplies, and musical literature.

3.7. The musician shall notify the Chaplain Priest or Officiating Chaplain by telephone or email when the musician is unable to perform for any reason (illness, inclement weather, an emergency, etc.).  Notification for any of the above examples should be given with as much advance notice as possible.  The musician shall provide the Chaplain Priest or Officiating Chaplain a two weeks advanced notice of scheduled vacations.  When the musician is unable to perform for any reason, the musician shall comply with subparagraph 3.8.

3.8. The musician shall provide and compensate a pre-approved substitute when unable to perform services required as identified in this Statement of Work.

4. GOVERNMENT FURNISHED PROPERTY AND EQUIPMENT

4.1. The Base Chaplain’s Office has adequate musical instruments on hand and will provide the musician access to those instruments in order to perform the required services identified in this Statement of Work.

4.2. The Base Chaplain’s Office will provide hymnals and other musical materials necessary to perform the services required of the musician.

4.3. All Government materials will remain the property of the Government.

5. PERIOD AND PLACE OF PERFORMANCE

5.1. This requirement is anticipated to be a three-year contract with up to 228 events/year.

5.2. The place of performance is the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Chapel, Building 17, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Occasionally, other sites aboard the Camp Lejeune Complex may be utilized, as coordinated by the Chapel Priest.

Interested Candidates are requested to forward their resume together with three references from individuals who can attest to the candidate’s good work and steadiness.  Candidates who do not possess at least three years of performing steadily as a music director in a Roman Catholic church or chapel need not apply.  This is a part-time position with compensation based on budget and the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
