Director and Lead Musician


The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1.0 BACKGROUND:  The provision of sacred music services is essential for the delivery of Religious Ministry to meet the religious requirements for assigned personnel for Naval Submarine Base New London, located in Groton, CT.  The music director musician will perform services at Naval Submarine Base New London Religious Ministry facilities, or locations determined by the Religious Ministry (RM) Installation Program Director (IPD). 



2.1.1. Coordinate music with chaplain or clergy leading worship services for both Protestant and Roman Catholic worship services. One service per week for each community, normally conducted on Sunday mornings.  

2.1.2.  Play sacred music during worship services and special events.

 2.1.3.  Rehearse chapel choir and perform during planned worship services and events.


2.2.1.  Coordinate with RMT staff for advertisement of music program events. 

2.2.2.  Provide input for the weekly worship bulletins.   

2.2.3.  Coordinate with RMT staff for the scheduling of volunteer services in support of music programs. 

2.2.4.  Provide weekly attendance of choir practice to the RM Program Manager for input into the CRP-Analytics Tool.    

 2.2.5.  Adhere to Navy policy and guidance during Health Protection Condition (HPCON) restrictions. 

2.2.6.  Maintain music supplies provided to the Chapel by the Government. 

 2.2.7.  The music director musician will arrange for scheduled absences at least two weeks in advance. The music director musician will secure a suitable replacement, pre-approved by the IDP, to perform RM sacred music in their absence.  

 2.2.8.  Notify the Command Chaplain when unable to perform services due to illness, inclement weather and/or emergency leave.   

2.2.9.  Submit in Wide Area Workflow (WAWF) invoice for services provided in accordance with schedule of services.

4.1.1  Demonstrate skill as a musician, to lead congregational worship in a variety of styles, direct a choir in at least four-part musical scores, play the piano, and read music. 

4.1.2  Demonstrate an ability to play and conduct worship music across the spectrum of Roman Catholic Liturgy and contemporary Protestant worship, to include guitars, drums, and other instruments. 

4.1.3 Proof of U.S. Citizenship.

 4.1.4 Demonstrate proper English in speech and written form. 

4.1.5 Demonstrate means of travel to required locations to provide services. 

4.1.6 Dress in modest business casual when providing support and in public areas. Exercise good hygiene be neat, clean, and well-groomed. 

4.1.7 Perform services which involve moderate walking, standing, and carrying of light items.  4.1.8 Demonstrate a clear understanding of Navy organization and the pluralistic ministry requirements that affect the use of Chapel facilities and staff.    

4.1.9 Report to RM IPD regarding the administration and delivery of RM sacred music.    4.1.10 Utilize the IPD as their first point of contact to address administrative and music issues within the Command Religious Program (CRP).

4.1.12 Upon selection, the music director musician will submit to a background check performed by installation security.  There is no requirement for a classified security clearance.
