The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
Music is an essential element in Protestant worship. Services of the music director/ pianist include the selection of “blended music” (contemporary and traditional church music) appropriate to the liturgical seasons in consultation with the Chaplain who presides at the service. Also important is the recruitment of volunteers who serve as part to the music team through singing or various instrumental accompaniment, to include a volunteer cantor.
Development and delivery of a proposed plan of special music arranged from outside sources, as deemed appropriate and necessary for the church year, in order to provide musical presentations at each worship service, in the form of Prelude, Offertory, Recessional, etc.
3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Professional Experience: Evidence of a Master’s Degree in music or church music. An acceptable equivalent in place of such a degree would be at least three years’ experience in playing for Protestant worship services.
- It is desirable that the music director has previous experience in working with military chapels.
- Must uphold and adhere to the highest standards of personal conduct, morals and ethics for a professional and must always be conscious of the trusted position they hold and the reputation they embodies as a music director of the Naval Air Station Lemoore (NASL) Religious Ministries’ Program.
- Experience to direct choral music.
- Ability to play the piano for a variety of church hymns and music as found in the prescribed Hymnal and worship aides.
4. GENERAL CONTRACT SUPPORT: The Music director/Vendor is directly responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness and completion of all tasks and deliverables in sections 5 and 6 below. This requirement enables the means to achieve reliable, sustainable, seamless, cost effective and timely delivery of services.
4.1 Possess an understanding of military customs, courtesies, traditions, protocol, and honors rendered in conjunction with military ceremonies.
4.1.2 Must demonstrate ability to interact with people from all socio-economic backgrounds, military, their family members, sexual orientation and/or civilians.
4.1.3 The music director shall provide Protestant Music as defined by the presiding Chaplain for
the service. Liaison with the Senior Installation Chaplain for planning and coordination of
music is required.
5. OBJECTIVES AND TASKS:
5.1 Development and delivery of a proposed plan of special music arranged from outside sources, as deemed appropriate and necessary for the church year, in order to provide musical presentations at each worship service, in the form of Prelude, Offertory, Recessional, etc.
5.1.2 Once each Sunday (for 52 Sunday’s) the music director pianist will provide musical
accompaniment during Sunday services and congregational singing. Also provide prelude,
postlude, and hymns during the regular worship service on Sundays and other such services
as may be scheduled by the on-site Protestant chaplain. Provide for 5 special worship
services including additional rehearsals for:
Holy Thursday/Good Friday services
Command memorial/funeral services, weddings projected/ no more than 5 per year.
5.1.3. The music director will provide and coordinate all programming with the assigned Protestant chaplain during planning meetings – maximum of six. Be available to meet for liturgical planning sessions (a minimum of one hour, once a month).
5.1.4. The music director will provide quality music appropriate to the church seasons in consultation with the chaplain who presides at the service.
5.1.5 Recruit, coordinate and sustain a volunteer choir, which will be present at every Divine Service, unless excused by the Protestant Chaplain.
5.1.6 Provide choir practice one hour in the evening, once a week for 52 weeks, as well as accompaniment for the choir rehearsals, including the rehearsal of congregational hymns. Perform a 30 minute choir rehearsal prior to each worship service.
5.1.7 Coordinate use of chapel and classroom facilities for choir rehearsals.
5.1.8 On-going flexibility and the ability to work well with the chapel staff and family members.
5.1.9 Success in providing quality customer services and support skills to the Protestant Chaplain and Protestant community.
5.2.0 The music director shall provide Protestant Pianist Music and lead in song for a variety of church hymns and music found in prescribed Protestant worship aides.
5.2.1 The music director will provide and coordinate with all programming with the assigned Protestant Chaplain, and will schedule music using the church calendar, i.e., Advent,Lent, Easter, Divine Services, Weddings Funerals, Memorial Services any special occasion services.
5.2.2 Maintaining religious hymnals/song books and other program materials.
5.2.3 Assist the Protestant chaplain in coordinating and scheduling musical events for
religious groups present at the Installation.
5.2.4 In the event that the music director is incapable of performing the duties and responsibilities outlined in this statement of work due to personal emergency or illness the music director is responsible for obtaining the services of a sub-music director that is qualified to perform the required services. Since this will be a third party arrangement for services the music director will handle all payment issues to the sub-music director outside the scope of this contract. The government reserves the right to a pre-award survey and interview to verify that the sub-music director used by the music director has the capability and technical excellence to perform the function outlined in this statement of work. If the absence is scheduled, the name of the replacement will be provided 15 days prior to absence. Except in case of an emergency when The Installation Chaplain and/or staff should be contacted immediately.
Work is performed at NAS Lemoore Chapel.
