The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Contract Position Title. Protestant Religious Education Coordinator
2. Scope of Responsibilities: The Protestant RE Coordinator will support the MacDill Chapel’s vision and mission statements as identified and authorized by 6th Airlift Mobility Wing Chaplain, Deputy Wing Chaplain, and or the Protestant Chaplain.
3. Education and Experience Requirements:
A. Applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age and be able to speak and write in American Standard English. A documented bachelor’s degree is required. The Applicant’s ideal background for this position should be four years of experience as a program coordinator, two years of experience in management, and a working knowledge of the Protestant
Faith. The applicant will possess the ability to work and make decisions independently, and possess the ability to supervise/work with volunteers.
B. Applicant must have a working knowledge of computers and a familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)—all elements necessary to prepare programs and schedules.
4. General Responsibilities. The Protestant RE coordinator will use the above education and experience to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
A. Shall be responsible to the Deputy Wing Chaplain or Protestant Chaplain to support the policies, procedures, and practices of the MacDill Chapel in accordance with the operating instructions and policy established by HQ USAF/HC, as supplemented locally.
B. Shall support the Protestant RE Leadership with regard to Religious education, ministerial, and administrative duties.
C. Shall support and work with the entire chapel staff, other assigned chaplains, coordinators, and account manager. In those areas where job requirements overlap with chaplain assistants, specific duties. the chaplain assistants will be in charge of those
D. .Applicant must have the ability to work within the pluralistic religious environment of the Air Force Chaplain Corps and to understand and relate to the unique demands of the military community. The applicant accomplishes the terms of the contract in compliance with the mission requirements and standards set forth and defined by the Department of the Air Force and the Air Force Chaplain Corps.
E. The applicant must be able to collaborate with other chaplains and parish ministers under the direction of the lead Protestant Chaplain at Parish Council Meetings and Worship/Program Planning Meetings.
F. The applicant shall possess the people skills that combine tact, compassion, leadership, organization, details, and dedication that treat this position as a ministry with the ultimate goal of providing a chapel parish program that offers the best opportunity for the spiritual enrichment of its parishioners.
G. Shall possess experience in recruiting, coordinating, and working with volunteers in all the parish programs.
5. Specific Responsibilities: In support of the above general responsibilities, the applicant will:
A. The RE Coordinator will be responsible for overall program development, daily coordination, implementation, recruitment, and training of the Religious Education Program. This includes the needs of children from pre-school through grade 12, as well as adults.
B. Responsible for overall program development and coordination of the K-12 Ministry or alternate program, which includes advertising, recruitment, and training of teachers, students, and volunteers.
C. Attends RE staff meetings and weekly chapel staff meetings as directed by the Deputy Wing Chaplain or Protestant Chaplain. The Coordinator is also encouraged to attend programs, symposiums, or conferences aimed at furthering the development of Parish coordinators. Submits a program status report for the Parish Council no later than 5 working days
prior to the Council meeting.
D. Develops and tracks the MacDill annual Protestant RE budget. The proposed budget must be developed and submitted to the Deputy Wing Chaplain or the Protestant Chaplain by 1 March. Consolidates the common requirements for texts and materials for the Protestant Religious Education Program and submits the purchase requests to the MacDill chaplain fund
Office in the format and manner proscribed.
E. Develops a proposed 12-month calendar of RE events and scheduled classes to be submitted to the lead Protestant Chaplain by his designated date. Develops and tracks a 12-month calendar of Protestant ministry events to be compiled from parish input and presented for approval of the Deputy Wing Chaplain or Protestant Chaplain or his designate.
F. Provides RE and ministry data for the required Air Force AFCCARS database, and submits monthly report to the appointed chaplains and chaplain’s assistant before the 3rd day of each month.
G. Conducts ongoing registration and maintains a database of rosters for students, teachers, staff, and candidates. Updates lists are to be submitted quarterly to the lead Protestant Chaplain or his designate.
H. Annually provides an area wide parent handbook of policies, procedures and class calendars, as well as guidelines and norms. The Parent Handbook is to be distributed at registration. The Coordinator will provide an area-wide teacher handbook to include job descriptions, annual calendars, policies and procedures. The teacher handbook is to be provided to all teachers two weeks prior to the beginning of classes. The lead Protestant Chaplain or his designate must approve both handbooks prior to their distribution.
I. Recruits and adequately trains volunteers to staff the Religious Education Program. Offers an orientation for all new teachers in the MacDill area and offers other training workshops for the MacDill Religious Education Program staff during the school year.
J. Supports the logistical needs of the teaching staff in a timely manner. Maintains adequate supplies of consumable materials, inventories resources, equipment and submits a report to the Protestant Chaplain by his designated date.
K. Maintains a continuity file for the Protestant RE Program, ministry programs, and all after-action reports.
L. Provides copies of all publicity to the lead Protestant Chaplain or his designate in accordance with local policy.
M. Provides a schedule of hours of availability to the lead Protestant Chaplain or his designate.
N. Assist the lead Protestant Chaplain and account manager in developing and tracking the MacDill annual Protestant
Parish budget. The coordinator records purchase requests approved by the Protestant Chaplain or his designate.
O. Schedule events, secures facilities and submits fund requests in coordination with the Protestant Chaplain or his/her designate.
P. Maintains and updates electronic parish directory.
Q. Serves as a central source of information on: calendars, rosters, chapel related personnel, and recurring and projected events.
R. Receives, consolidates, and publishes Protestant parish publicity in a timely manner, in accordance with the approval of
the lead Protestant Chaplain or his designate.
S. Coordinate with the Chapel Security Manager and Children’s Church Coordinator to ensure that all volunteers working with youth under 18 years of age have a valid installation records check and/or background check as described in Department of Defense Instruction 1402.5. All installation records checks will be conducted by the Security Manager.
T. Safety. Be familiar with and implement fire and safety practices in accordance with AFI 91-301 to prevent accidents and preserve the life and health of him/herself and any personnel performing or in any way affected by the performance of this contract.
U. Security. Ensure that all facilities used are properly secured, doors and windows locked, and lights turned off upon departure when a chapel staff member or person authorized to use the facility is not present. The Contractor shall be responsible for all keys provided and will not duplicate any keys. Upon termination of the position, all keys will be returned to the chapel facility manager. If any keys are lost or misplaced, the contractor must report the loss immediately.
V. Background Checks. It is mandatory that all contractors working with children under the age of eighteen (18) have a background investigation prior to working unsupervised.
