The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
3.3.1. Catholic Music Accompanist. The primary form of Catholic worship is the Mass and liturgical music is an essential element for this worship experience. The Catholic Music Accompanist provides the necessary musical support for the Mass.
3.3.1.1. Qualifications
a. A willingness to provide the services in consonance with normal ecclesiastical liturgical practices.
b. A proven familiarity with the requirements of Catholic worship.
c. A recognition that the Catholic Chaplain or his designee will make the final decision as to the appropriateness of any part of a given worship event, rite or observance including the music selected.
d. The ability to maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with co-workers, chapel staff and parishioners.
e. The maintenance of professional standards of conduct and public decorum, including but not limited to dress and grooming.
f. The contractor shall certify appropriate professional competence by providing evidence of academic certification and/or experience in Catholic music. The contractor must have the ability to sight read, transpose and develop accompaniment to a melody of chords, as well as read full musical accompaniment.
3.3.1.2. Specific Tasks. The Catholic Music Accompanist is responsible for playing music at the liturgical services of the Catholic Community at DMAFB Chapel, under the direction of the Catholic Music Director. Musical selections will be made in collaboration with the Catholic Music Director and Catholic Chaplain or his Designee. The Music Accompanist's responsibilities include:
a. Meet regularly with the Catholic Music Director for general planning of the music program.
b. Prepare to play music at a one hour rehearsal per week, per liturgy. The rehearsals must be conducted separate from the liturgy itself. The warm up time prior to a service will be considered part of the service and not a separate rehearsal.
c. Perform at Weekend Masses - Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
d. Perform at special services or liturgies, to include the Christmas Cantata, as determined by the Catholic Chaplain or his Designee. These services will include a 15 to 30-minutc warm up session before each service, and the performance of the service itself of generally one, but no more than two hours.
e. The number of sessions the accompanist shall provide are 52 Saturday Masses, 52 Sunday Masses, 104 rehearsals (two a week, one for each weekend Mass), and 25 sessions for special services or liturgies, for a total maximum of 233 sessions. Each
session (each Mass, special service, liturgy, or rehearsal) is considered a unit and payment will be based on the number of units actually performed.
3.3.1.3 Replacement Personnel. The Music Accompanist is responsible for continuous performance through the contract performance period. If a replacement becomes necessary, candidates must meet all Catholic Music Accompanists qualifications in this PWS and be an agreeable substitute by the Catholic Chaplain or his designee. The Government reserves the right to refuse any candidate if the candidate does not meet all required qualifications.
3.3.1.4 Schedule. The number of sessions the accompanist will provide are 52 Saturday Masses, 52
Sunday Masses, 104 rehearsals (two a week, one for each weekend Mass), and 25 sessions for special services or liturgies, for a total maximum of 233 sessions. Each session (each Mass, special service, liturgy, or rehearsal) is considered a unit and payment will be based on the number of units performed.
