The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Description of Service
The musician shall perform during Saturday evening, and Sunday morning Catholic Mass.
2. Basic Services
The Musician shall all liturgical musical and administrative services as defined in this Statement of Work (SOW). LAAFB includes Fort MacArthur, Pacific Heights, and Pacific Crest which is located approximately 20 miles south of El Segundo.
2.1 Period of Performance
The Musician shall perform the services described within this SOW for the period specified in the signed contract award between the Musician and Government which is One (1) Base Period which consists of twelve (12) months and four (4) Option Years consisting of twelve (12) months each.
2.2 Background Check for Musician and Volunteers
The Musician must submit to a background investigation in compliance with DoDM 1402.05 (Section 3.1a - e, 24 January 2017). The Musician shall be responsible for gathering background check paperwork for all sub-musicians and volunteers working with children under the age of 18. The Musician shall submit paperwork to the chapel staff for processing within 10 business days after contract award. The Government reserves the right to restrict the services under this contract, of any Musician, or prospective Musician, who is identified as a potential threat to health, safety, security, general well- being, or the operational mission of the installation and its population.
2.3 Catholic Music Program
The Musician must be trained and experienced in Catholic liturgical music ministry, liturgical planning, and be responsible for providing liturgical musical accompaniment for all Roman Catholic Masses to include weekly choir presentations, solos, or duets, and leading congregational and choir music either directly or through the use of qualified employees or qualified and approved sub-musicians. Additionally, the Musician shall:
a. Select and provide music, including song leading and cantoring, for Saturday Mass, held at 4:30 p.m.
b. Choose and prepare music selections, approved by the presiding Catholic Priest, Prior to each Mass.
c. Be able to utilize the chapel's public address system, to include moderating its use during the Masses, and shall be responsible for securing wireless components when not in use.
d. Be responsible for recruitment, training and leading the choir(composed of volunteers).
e. Coordinate with the priest, instrumentalists, and other lay worship leaders concerning the plans and needs of the weekly Mass. This coordination includes being present 30 minutes prior to any planned Mass.
f. Provide a qualified substitute with prior approval of that musician by the Priest, in the event the musician will be absent. Musician must provide at least 2 weeks’ notice of substitution. The substitutes will not be utilized more than 4 times per contract year, unless permission for additional absences has been coordinated with the Priest. In the event of an emergency, as soon as possible, contact the priest.
g. Be responsible for appropriate liturgical interludes during Mass when no singing is utilized.
2.3.1 Normal Operation Hours
The Musician shall guarantee liturgical musical accompanist for Mass every Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Any additional services required can be performed with flexible hours upon mutual agreement between the Musician and the Chaplain's office.
a. Be an accomplished musician able to sight-read music and able to teach the fundamentals of music, as well as have a grasp of the basics of vocals. A baccalaureate degree or four years’ experience with keyboard skills is preferred.
b. Must be accomplished in playing for the Catholic Mass liturgical order of service.
c. Capable of accompanying a soloist or choir.
d. Capable of musically leading the Catholic choir and community in mass.
e. Possess at least two years prior experience in leading music in a Catholic worship service.
f. Ability to work well with Chaplains and Laypersons from a variety of backgrounds and practices.
g. Ability to work with children under the age of 18.
2.3.3 Estimated Workload Data
a. Twelve hours per month which includes performance, service preparation (rehearsals, coordination’s) and setup/takedown.
b. Coordination with the priest at least once per month, for the order of the mass and the month’s activities.
c. Prepare music selections utilizing the missal and music issues provided by the chapel.
