The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. Description of Service

Catholic music services shall include the development and provision of an annual Catholic Liturgical Music program which encompasses Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday Mass to include Holy Days of Obligation, Special Events, and volunteer coordination for musical services. Services include music performance or accompaniment for Saturday, Sunday, Holidays, Holy Days of Obligation, and Special Events.

The Music Director shall provide all personnel, equipment, labor, tools, and supervision necessary to perform all Catholic Liturgical Music Director, music services, and administration as defined, for the Space Base Delta 3 (SBD 3) Chaplain’s (HC) Office.

The Base Chapel is located at Fort MacArthur, and Chaplain Office is located at Los Angeles Space Force Base (LA AFB) building 272 in El Segundo, CA.

2. Basic Services

The Music Director shall develop and provide an annual Catholic Liturgical Music program that encompasses Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday Mass to include Holy Days of Obligation, Special Events, and volunteer coordination for musical services. The Catholic Priest(s) will be the advisor for the music program and all music performances. The Catholic

Priest(s) is the approval authority for Catholic Liturgical music matters.

The program shall be in accordance with the most current TODAY’S MISSAL Masses for Sundays and Holy Days with Daily Mass Propers and TODAY’S MISSAL Music Issue.

2.1. Music Director Personnel Qualifications

• Be able to musically lead the community and choir in Mass.

• Be able to proficiently play a musical instrument and be capable of accompanying a soloist or choir for an entire duration of Mass without being prompted.

• Have minimum one (1) year of experience of basic vocals and Catholic liturgical music.

• Be able to select, arrange, and evaluate liturgical music for consideration.

• Competently perform Catholic music by correctly sight-reading and performing on a weekly basis.

• Be able to work with Chaplain(s) and layperson(s) from a variety of backgrounds and practices.

• Be able to work with staff, volunteers, and Catholic community members.

• Be able to work with children under the age of 18.

• Must be able to work in a flexible environment with contract and military staff.

• Must be able to work in pluralistic religious environments and honor the dignity and values of other faith, traditions, and ideals.

2.2. Musical Services

Musical services shall be performed every Saturday, Sunday, Holidays, Holy Days of Obligation, and Special Events. Any additional services required can be performed with hours upon mutual agreement between the Music Director and LA AFB Chaplain Office Staff.

Musical services shall include, but not limited to, song leading and cantoring starting at 15:30 before Saturday Mass at 16:00, 08:30 before Sunday Mass at 0900, and 17:30 before Holy Day of Obligation Mass at 18:00.

The musical accompaniment shall be a mix of Music Director personnel and volunteers from the congregation (choir) as identified in the approved Catholic Liturgical Music Program.

The Music Director shall be responsible for leading the congregation in the playing and singing of music. Music Director personnel, at the minimum, shall be chairing the seat of one instrument and be proficient in the reading of sheet music. Music Director personnel that chair the seat of one instrument are preferred to be a Pianist’s able to read sheet music and be proficient in the playing of piano. In the event Music Director personnel and volunteers are not available, the Music Director shall be responsible for ensuring music services are still performed.

2.3. Saturday, Sunday, Holiday, Holy Days of Obligation, and Special Events

The Music Director is required to be at location 30 Minutes prior to the start of Saturday, Sunday, Holiday, Holy Days of Obligation and Special Event services. For example, the Music Director should be prepared to provide music services on Saturday at 15:30, Sunday at 08:30, Holy Days of Obligation at 17:30, and henceforth. Saturday Mass begins at 16:00, Sunday Mass begins at 09:00, and Holy Days of Obligation begin at 18:00 but can be subject to change. Times for Holy Days of Obligation, Holidays, and Special Event services will be established once the annual Catholic Liturgical Music program is finalized.

2.3.2. Estimated Federal Holidays

The Music Director shall provide services on Federal Holidays that fall on days of Mass, Holy Days of Obligation, and Special Events.

2.3.3. Liturgical Calendar Example (subject to change)

• The first two issues during the first week of Advent

• The third issue during the week of Holy Week

• The fourth issue during the first week of Summer Ordinary Time

2.4. Catholic Liturgical Music Program

The Catholic Liturgical Music Program shall include the selection of music and sheet music, and accompaniments will not be provided by the Chaplain staff members.

Requests for sheet music and supplies shall be submitted to the Community Administrator (Chaplain Office Staff or Priest) and coordinated 14 days in advance. Music Director will ensure that a copy of all accompaniment music including standard parts of Saturday, Sunday, Holiday, Holy Days of Obligation and Special Event Services is always maintained at the chapel or provided to Liturgical Ministry staff in case of emergency. The

Program shall address at a minimum:

• Music

• Song Leading

• Cantoring

• Accompaniment

• Choir

• Times and dates of Mass and Services

• Music Director Points of Contact

2.4.1. Program Submission and Approval

The Music Director will work with the Catholic Priest(s) for Music Program coordination, submission, and approval.

2.4.2. Coordination between Lay Worship Leaders

The Music Director will coordinate with lay worship leaders to ensure music services are provided at the appropriate times including, but not limited to, performances, meditation music, and interludes. Planning and execution for weekly Mass will require active communication and accountability. The Music Director will be able to utilize the chapel’s public address system, to include moderating its use during Mass.

2.4.3. Volunteer Training, Coordination, and Recruitment

The Music Director is responsible for the training, coordination, and recruitment of the choir for performance on the dates listed in this contract. The Music Director shall have expertise in leading and guiding volunteers to perform Catholic liturgy music. Rehearsal should not interfere with any standard Catholic services on Saturday, Sunday, Holiday, Holy Days of Obligation and Special Events. All volunteers that participate with the Music Director must have existing base and Chapel access.
