The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. MUSICIAN POSITION TITLE: Gospel Worship Service Musician
2. ENVIRONMENT: The Travis AFB Chaplain Corps mission is to provide for the religious and spiritual needs of the active duty Air Force members and their families as they accomplish the mission of the 60th Air Mobility Wing. We support individual rights under the First Amendment to the U. S. Constitution and provide an opportunity for everyone to freely exercise their religious beliefs.
3. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
3.1. Faith & Practice: Protestant Christian who is active in his/her faith and committed to being an active part in the Travis Chapel Protestant Worship Services.
3.2.1 Provide resume.
3.2.2 Two positive letters of reference from individuals who have supervised applicant working in the field of music ministry. References must verify applicant meets qualifications.
3.2.3 Video of worship service in which applicant is leading congregational worship.
3.3. Musical audition with Deputy Wing Chaplain, Protestant Community Chaplain, and Chapel Superintendent or Non-commissioned Officer in charge (NCOIC).
3.3.1 Audition will be conducted prior to award.
3.3.2 A recorded video in disk format must be provided.
3.3.3 Demonstrate a high level of technical playing ability and sight reading.
3.3.4 Video must contain a high quality of gospel performance music i.e. T.D. Jakes.
3.4. Education & Experience: Minimum high school diploma (preferred two years Bachelor’s level education in instrumental music) and at least two years’ experience as a worship service musician. Must provide copy of diploma/transcripts.
3.5. Performance Proficiency:
3.5.1 Quality instrumental performance (keyboard or guitar).
3.5.2 Able to sight-read & perform instrumental sheet music.
3.5.3 Able to play and read chord charts.
3.6. Range of Style: Able to perform a wide variety of Protestant worship music with a primary emphasis on gospel worship style.
3.7. Sensitivity to the wide variety of faith expressions within the military community (capability of working in a pluralistic environment). Must be able to demonstrate. Dignity and respect are paramount.
3.8. Desire and ability to work with diverse groups of people, sometimes in a high stress environment.
4. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Musician shall perform for all regularly scheduled worship services, choir rehearsals and additional services as requested by the Contract Officer or assigned Chaplain, including, but not limited to, special chapel functions and special worship services. Other responsibilities include:
4.1. Execute all assigned duties and responsibilities under the leadership of the Protestant Community Chaplain and in cooperation with the volunteer ministry leaders and other Chapel Staff
4.2. Adhere to, and comply with all Federal, State, and local laws/regulations as well as any applicable Air Force Instructions and Chapel Operating Instructions.
4.3. Possess and demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with chapel staff, other musicians, volunteers, and members of other faith groups for ecumenical activities.
4.4. Undergo successful background checks as directed by DoDI 1402.5 Criminal History Background Checks on Individuals in Child Care Services.
4.5. Under the leadership of the Protestant Community Chaplain and in cooperation with the Gospel Worship Service Director, establish a regular schedule of work. Schedule is to accommodate presence during rehearsals (minimum two per week), worship services (minimum one per week) and other musical programs, which will include evening and/or weekend hours, to include Sunday.
5. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
5.1.1. . Provide accompaniment and assistance for all regular rehearsals as scheduled by the Gospel Worship Service Music Director
5.1.2. Assist in setup of rehearsal area to include all audio equipment and instruments at least thirty minutes in advance
5.1.3. Assist in ensuring the Chapel is cleaned up and equipment is properly stored & secured, lights turned off, and building secured, in accordance with chapel operating instruction.
5.2. Worship Services:
5.2.1. Provide accompaniment and assistance for all performances.
5.2.2. Assist in setup performance area to include all audio equipment and instruments at least 45 minutes in advance of service.
5.2.3. Gather with all musicians, vocalists, and A/V technicians for sound-check and warm-up at least 30 minutes in advance of service.
5.2.4. Provide piano/electronic keyboard musical accompaniment.
5.2.5. Participate in the entirety of the worship service
5.2.6. Gather with all musicians, vocalists, and A/V technicians to break-down, store, and secure all equipment following the service. If another team is using the equipment immediately following, coordinate with that service music director to ensure smooth transition and that equipment if not broken down if they need it.
6. HOURS/UNITS OF WORK:
6.1. Musician services will be provided during Sunday worship services, can be up to two hours in length. Practice sessions/rehearsals will be held prior to each service at a time to be determined by the Musician, with the approval of the Contract Officer or CGS Chaplain.
6.2. Special services, and practices/rehearsals for special services, are in addition to the normal weekly work units. Units are defined as a session, which is a minimum of an hour but not to exceed two hours, providing services listed in this PWS.

7. REPLACEMENTS: Musician is responsible for continuous contract performance through contract period. Replacements may not be on a long-term, recurring basis, but only for required short-term absences of a personal nature. Candidates must meet all Protestant Gospel Musician qualifications listed above and be an agreeable substitute by the Protestant Chaplain in charge. Resume and references are required for approval. The government reserves the right to refuse any candidate if he or she does not meet all required qualifications. The Musician shall submit a resume for each candidate.
7.1. Replacement candidates (sub-musicians) can be approved in advance to facilitate ease of filling required absence due to unplanned events.
7.2. All sub-musicians must meet the same qualifications as the musician and be approved by the Wing Chaplain.
DEADLINE August 1, 2019: Interested Candidates are requested to forward their resume together with three references from individuals who can attest to the candidate’s good work and steadiness. Candidates who do not possess the specific attributes/qualifications in "3. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS" above need not apply.
