The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. Scope: A Music Director/Musician is required to provide services as a Music Director/Musician for the Catholic and Protestant music program at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC. Hiring a Music Director/Musician to complete the mission and objectives of the Marine Corps Air Station Religious Ministry Program.

2. Services to be provided: The musician shall provide services as Music Director/Musician for the Catholic and Protestant music program under the supervision of the Command Chaplain; and in cooperation with the Contract Priest (if one is required). An essential component of this requirement is the provision of a well-organized and professionally executed liturgical music program, which promotes the full conscious and active participation of the assembly. Using chapel equipment the responsibilities shall include:

 2.1 Organ/piano accompaniment and choral direction for rehearsals and worship services as listed below.

 2.2 Provision of accompaniment (organ and piano) and direction for all congregational singing required during worship services. Music composition will be provided, in part, by the government and Chapel music files.

 Additional music such as preludes, offertories and postludes presented by the musician will be based on compositions appropriate to Catholic and Protestant worship.

 2.3 Submit applicable notices and announcements concerning choir activities; performances for review by the Priest and Protestant Chaplain at least ten days prior to inclusion in the Sunday bulletin or media release.

 2.4 Work in cooperation with the chapel community to provide appropriate musical accompaniment and choral direction for the rehearsal and performance of Christmas Programs and Thanksgiving Day Services.

 2.5 Actively work to improve the Catholic and Protestant worship music program.

 2.6 Select, teach, and lead the Catholic and Protestant communities in traditional and contemporary worship.

 2.7 Meet monthly with the Priest/Chaplain to coordinate musical support and liturgy planning.

 2.8 Provide accompaniment and direction for a children’s choir during Children’s church.

4. Qualifications:

4.1 Must audition prior to award of contract

 4.2 Five years of military music ministry experience

 4.3 Be proficient and competent in musical interpretation and performance and able to sight read music

 4.4 Quote must demonstrate the ability to play both the organ and the piano.

 4.5 Must state experience playing prelude, an offertory, communion meditation, postlude, and hymns.

 4.6 Must be able to sight read randomly selected music.

 4.7 Verify familiarity with all verses with sensitivity to text of each verse (meaning change of registration, etc.) with an appropriate introduction.

 4.8 Familiarity with Catholic liturgy and ask them to accompany cantor in singing a Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Memorial Acclamation, Great Amen, and Agnus Dei.

 4.9 Candidate directs a choir for the Christmas, must show experience in this area.

5. Point of Contact: The Command Chaplain, will be the Contracting Officer’s technical representative for this contract. Contact information will provided upon award.

6. General Information: This position is estimated at thirty-two hours weekly to include the Music Director’s practice time and based on an annual calendar of activity that may have seasonal variation. The Music Director is expected to be present on Sunday Morning, attend Monday morning Staff Meetings upon request of the Command Chaplain and have a flexible weekday schedule to accommodate practices and Memorials. The musician shall perform these duties at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina using Government facilities, equipment and materials.

7. Government Provided Equipment: The musician shall notify the Command Chaplain of any recommendations and requirements for the maintenance, repair and improvement of government owned organs, pianos and related equipment in the chapel center.

8. Absences: When a substitute is needed, arrangements shall be made by the musician. Substitutes must demonstrate proficiency in organ/keyboard/piano through audition prior to the event substituted. Notification of substitution shall be made to the Command Chaplain at least two weeks in advance, except for emergencies.

Payment of substitutes shall be the sole responsibility of the musician. Absences should not exceed five instances per year.

9. Special Invoicing Instructions: Invoices for services performed shall be submitted by the musician monthly, after completion of such services. Each invoice will include the number of services performed, the total amount of the invoice, the period covered and the purchase order number. Each monthly payment will be for the actual number of services performed.

10. Deductions from Musician Pay: Social Security, state, local, and federal taxes shall be paid by the musician.
