The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 musician with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Position Title: Catholic Mass Musician
2. Performance Location: Altus Air Force Base (AFB) Chapel, Bldg 301, or alternate location determined by the Designated Chaplain.
3. Scope of Responsibilities: The Catholic Mass Musician (“Musician”) will, in coordination with the Designated Chaplain, have responsibility for providing music for the Catholic Mass.
4. Core Working Hours: The Designated Chaplain and Musician will determine rehearsal times, and core working hours will not exceed 120 weekly rehearsals and worship services for all 52 weeks of contractual year. Worship services will be held on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. (Musician will be notified at least seven (7) in advance of exceptions to dates and times of rehearsals and worship services.)
5. Education and Experience: The Musician must:
5.1. Be at least 21 years of age.
5.2. Possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience within the last five (5) as a Musician with the ability to read music and play a lead instrument (i.e., guitar, piano, and/or keyboard) to accompany the Catholic Mass Music Director.
5.3. Be positive, self-directed, motivated, and able to interface well within the interfaith Air Force chapel environment with chaplains and volunteers from various religious backgrounds. Possess an ability to maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with staff and congregants, and also maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum, including but not limited to dress and grooming.
5.4. Display active membership/attendance at a church/chapel with a letter of endorsement from their current pastor/chapel
5.5. Provide the following: (a) a video segment performing a minimum of a five (5) traditional and
contemporary-style songs; and (b) a complete resume with academic and at least three (3) work
related references including phone numbers and points of contact. Previous work performance
and/or letters of recommendation may also serve to supplement a resume as factors in the applicant
selection process
Requirements:
6.1. Coordinate weekly music rehearsals on an agreed upon date with the Music Director and Designated Chaplain.
6.2. At a minimum, meet twice monthly or as reasonably needed with the Designated Chaplain and Music Director to access the quality of the music program. This meeting will also be used to plan future musical performances.
6.3. Be knowledgeable in areas of Air Force Instructions (AFIs) relevant to chapel functions and/or willing to gain that knowledge to include financial procedures necessary for compliance with Air Force directives dealing with security and conflict of interest issues. Knowledge of scheduling policies is also needed to prevent conflicts with other users of chapel facility and resources.
6.4. Be able to successfully obtain a favorable background check if required. Failure to accomplish a favorable background check.
6.5. Be accountable for security and orderliness of all facilities and equipment utilized in conjunction with their programs. At completion of each service and rehearsal, ensures stage is returned to a neutral status and left in a neat and orderly fashion as directed by the Chapel Staff. Secure the building following rehearsals and services as required.
7. Specific Responsibilities. The Musician will:
7.1. Provide music in support of the Music Director. All music performance/rehearsal schedules will be as follows:
7.1.1. Conduct one (1) worship service per week or as requested by the Designated Chaplain;
7.1.2. Conduct one (1) rehearsal per weekday in support of the Music Director as requested by the Designated Chaplain; and
7.1.3. Conduct Special Worship Service or rehearsal(s) as requested by the Designated Chaplain.
7.2. Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to any rehearsal or worship service to insure that proper preparations of the facility, sound system setup (including microphones, music stands, etc), music and any necessary coordination with the Designated Chaplain has been made. The Musician will also make sure all facilities and equipment are returned to their original position/condition per the direction of the Chapel Staff and relevant procedures.

Candidates who do not possess at least three years of recent experience performing steadily as a Catholic Mass Pianist, Organist or Guitarist in a church or chapel need not apply. This is a part-time position with compensation based on budget and the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
